I can see the appeal of being a traveling businessman. Business trips ROCK! Basically they can be summarized as a short vacation where you have to work for a few hours, but everything is paid for. 4 co-workers and myself left Thursday morning for a 3.5 hour drive down to Lexington, KY. When we got there I was introduced to a bunch of people and got a general tour of the buildings. Probably the coolest thing of that part was getting to tour our data center. I really wish I would have taken pictures of it because it was awesome! Getting to see our whole backup system along with all the rows and rows of server racks and mainframes had my geek juices flowing. After lunch we had some meetings for the rest of the workday and then went out to dinner at Carrabba’s (fully paid for including drinks) Then we headed to the hotel. I was given a room all to myself that was bigger than any room I had stayed in before. Maybe some of you have stayed in some nice rooms, but for me this was huge.
The bathroom had a massive jacuzzi tub and the bed was a King. It’s like they knew a giant would be sleeping here.
I mainly just relaxed in the room and went down to the hotel bar for a bit and got a full night’s sleep. The next day we had breakfast at Bob Evan’s and then a few more meetings back at the campus. We left soon after lunch and were back in Columbus by the end of the workday. Everyone else who went felt the trip was pointless (and even complained that we weren’t staying at the nice hotel) but I thought it being my first business trip experience, it was amazing.
Superbowl is on tomorrow. Should be a good game. I’m feeling the Steeler’s are going to pull out the win, but as a Steeler’s hater, I will be cheering for the Seahawks.
